Many of you will see the new movie called “Blood Diamonds” portraying in graphic detail the tragedy and atrocities which took place during the 1990”s in the diamond industry. This movie has heightened awareness and caused many people to question the origin of the diamonds they plan to purchase.
The jewelry industry has partnered with government and citizen groups to create a system, the Kimberly Process, which certifies more than 99% of all rough diamonds through a government-mandated import-export control system to prevent conflict diamonds from getting into the legitimate diamond supply. To ensure that no conflict diamonds slip into the supply, our industry created a warranty system, in which every member of the legitimate trade passes on an official warranty statement each time diamonds change hands. The statement warrants that the gems are in compliance with the Kimberly Process. We require that all of our diamond and jewelry suppliers provide us with this written warranty.

In the fashion world this fall we are seeing bold colors, reds and blues, and elegant shades of grey. There is a definite return to traditional plaids and hounds tooth patterns but with a soft, feminine twist. Although black will always be in vogue, brown emerges strongly this year. Tiger eye, andalusite, brown Tahitian pearls, and champagne and cognac colored diamonds all pair up dazzlingly with gold and platinum complementing a wide range of styles and tastes accentuating one’s own personality. Blue stones prevail this upcoming season, and appear in an amazing array of shades and gemstones including tanzanite, sapphire, topaz, aquamarine, turquoise and blue abalone pearls, each with a texture, tone, and feel unique to itself. |
